WELCOME TO MY BLOG
Hi everyone, thank you so much for checking out my blog. I am so excited to get this up and running. So many people have told me that I needed to start something to share my experiences and I have thought long and hard on which path to take. I had thought about starting a youtube channel but it is not as easy as it looks. I give it to those youtube girls. They make it look so appealing and seamless but handling a youtube channel is a whole career. People forget everything that goes into just creating ONE video. These girls have to set up camera equipment, lighting, fix up the room, create the look/concept of the video, record and then edit all these clips to that perfect video you are watching at home.
Even now Instagram is becoming a job. Every photo is curated and every photo has a story. I knew that being in front of the camera was not going to be easy, I just get so awkward when taking pictures. Surprising I know, you can only imagine the frustration my boyfriend and my best friend Amanda have, being that they both are photographers. Blogging seemed to make the most sense for me, I mean I have to put those creative writing classes to use someday right? I definitely don’t see myself as a beauty guru, an Instagram girl, or whatever other popular terms are out there. I am a single mother, makeup artist and employee at a beauty company.
I have been so grateful to experience the things I have, meet the people in my life, and gain access to being a part of the beauty industry. I can easily remember 3 years ago wondering how to get involved and imagining it to be impossible being a new mom. Being a part of this industry has been a world wind experience, the chaotic energy behind the scenes at NYFW, the late night packing of the kit wondering if you really do need to pack that eyeliner, the amount of work it takes to build a booth at a trade show, the amazing people who have given me opportunities I could only dream of, it still amazes me every day.
As impossible as it may seem to get out there, believe me opportunities come out of left field. For every one you have to say no to because of conflicting work schedule, not having a baby sitter, or not feeling prepared, there will be so many more that you can say YES to and you just gotta grab the bull by the horn and make it work.
I remember being so pissed at the universe because I had applied to Sephora and went through all the interviews and rocked it. I was so ready to leave my job at Starbucks after being there for 4 years and finally get into beauty any way I could and unfortunately my work schedule was impossible for them to work around. Weekends was a must and that was a big no no for me having a one year old. I had just put him in daycare and Starbucks was so flexible and understanding and I wasn’t able to make it work for Sephora.
I was so bummed out and then out of nowhere, I get an email from May Cruz at Temptu (now at Make Up For Ever) who noticed my work on social media for a contest and invited me to the NY showroom to take a master class with one of their head educators. I ended up knowing the educator and from there got asked if I was interested in a freelance opportunity. I met a woman named Hallie at Temptu who loved me so much, she helped create a position for me at Temptu, and Helene who has always had my back from day one. I'm already getting emotional just writing this.
I am so grateful and there are so many great people out there who will help you figure it out and make it work for you. The universe knows where you are meant to be and things will work out the way they should. Whatever cards life deals for you, just take them and enjoy the experience because it is your own experience and you make the best of it.
